I created a YouTube video that discussed the ongoing issue of Blackface. I explained some of its history, its impact on blacks, and when its use could actually be valid. In response, I received some very good feedback where some viewers directed me to other videos on the subject in hopes of a collaboration and others simply told me how much they learned from it. Understandably, I was extremely pleased by the feedback, but that happiness was short-lived.
Enter Hate. I received a message from another YouTuber, and that message was short and loaded with intolerance. I will not repeat its mercifully brief text, but I will present its tone:
ThE eXprSSion Of haTRed Is a ThiNg oF BeautTy
wHeN DonE by WHite pEopLE.
First off, the expression of hatred by anyone regardless of their race is despicable. However, it seems that the author of the message finds hatred to be offensive only when done by non-whites, but he believes it is the work of a Renaissance master when done by Caucasians. So, yes, I have a hatemonger as a viewer.
I wondered just what kind of person would send a message in support of hate to me, and my answer was one that would make a Leftist yell, "We told you so!" Upon investigation, I found the writer's YouTube page laden with anti-Left, anti-Obama, anti-Muslim, conspiracy-filled, ultraconservative, pro-Trump videos that espouse great intolerance, thus making the narrative promoted by the Left about raging, hate-filled conservatives appear to be correct. In truth, however, he is but an example of what the Right needs to condemn. Unreasoning hatred, unfounded accusations, and slanted beliefs do nothing to advance this great nation. Accordingly, the Right needs to condemn the hatred that comes from within its own ranks, period.
And the Left? Well, they are all perfect angels complete with wings, halos, and nary an impure thought, right? Well, to many within their ranks they may seem to be, but the rest of us see them as every bit as flawed and biased as their counterparts on the Right. Consider that the Right seeks to reject certain peoples in order to retain power for some and deny power to others, while the Left seeks to embrace those same people as they seek to benefit populations that are largely the socioeconomic opposites of those greatly favored by their political rivals. In both cases, there is no genuine concern for the subject populations as they are merely things--the means to an end--and there is no greater hatred than treating human beings as mere numbers and disposable pawns.
The hate-filled respondent is from the Right. Does that define them all? Hardly. Does it fit a narrative promoted by their opposition? Absolutely. And yet, I know that out there is a blogger or YouTuber who is similarly positioned before a computer and typing away in response to an uncontrollable spewer of Liberal thought who has assailed their work.
